Vague answer: kinda. I am a barista, so I know how much pressure to use in tamping. (Don't use the plastic tamper suggested in the instructions.). You need 35 pounds of pressure, and then spin the tamper in a circle as you press. This is key. The espresso grounds must be pressed very, very firmly and perfectly even! BUY A TAMPER. Next, SKIM MILK WILL FROTH BETTER, but the machine is frothing anything well, even coconut milk. If you have a "real" espresso shot glass it WILL NOT fit under the spigots. So, you can either use a true ceramic espresso cup, (which I happened to already own) or take the metal grate out, use a clear, small espresso cup or espresso shot glass and then watch & count quickly. Also, the machine vibrates so much that your shot glass will bounce around!! I remedied that by holding it, or using a soft piece of rubber pad on top of the grate. Yes, this is a semi-hassle too. And, 20-25 seconds is too long. You want dark coffee color on the bottom, copper orange in the middle, and crema on top. So, after a VERY frustrating first few tries, I'm now good at it. The unit heats up more quickly than the instructions say too, so don't fret over the 15" warm up time. To get a stainless frothing pitcher out from under the frother, you will need to pick up the unit with the handle. For me, no, this is not glamorous or professional looking!! However, I figure between hubby & me buying minimum at Starbucks for 2 lattes (running around -0 a month during the winter) the minor hassles and inconveniences are becoming more endearing rather than a source of total frustration. If you don't know how to do all this, and don't want to spend the time to possibly waist several bad-tasting attempts with milk foaming down your cabinet ... Then go with a pricier, taller, bigger version!! This works in our very small condo and we have delicious lattes at home ... Whenever we want one! No driving involved. ;) it's up to you if the learning curve and patience necessary to learn are worth it to you!! see less
Q
: First time buyer of an espresso machine......is the idea to offer the choice of a regular cup of coffee, an espresso or a Cappuccino?

When you put the espresso coffee in the holder, and tamp it down, the steam pressure makes about an ounce of thick coffee. There are some countries that drink their coffee this way, but not me! I use the larger size and after trial and error, I allow it to "espress" about three ounces. then add 1 ounce of chocolate and fill the measuring cup to 10 ounces with 1%milk. Place mixture in microwave for 2 minutes, remove and add whip cream. I prefer doing it this way instead of using the froth gadget. (I didn't mention adding cayenne pepper, a dash, but it is excellent and cleans out one's sinuses as well! Did this help? Again, if you are wanting espresso, please try cafe bustelo. It is very inexpensive but more flavor than the more expensive brands! see less
Q
: This is the frothing cup/pitcher that works perfectly with this, correct.
A
: Yes, that's the same one I use and it works perfectly. I had tried a few others that were too small/large, etc. but that's the one that one to get.
Q
: which stainless frother cup should i buy that will fit??
A
: The 12Oz works perfectly
